The Peril of Grace

Thunder sounds away and distant
  Calling from afar;
  Hearts that stand ajar
Hear the voice that underlies it
      Rising in a song,
Singing out a tune of gladness,
        Melody of joy and sadness,
      Tender, proud and strong.

Whispers from a realm of kindness
  Fan a dying fire.
  Innocent desire
Upward soars to seize the promise
      Dancing in the air,
Reaching for the land of Faerie,
Country of the grave and merry,
      Kingdom of the fair.

Higher than imagination
  Ever dared to tread,
  Dreams have there been bred,
    Echoing the truth of beauty,
      Planting deep within
        Longings that we cannot measure,
        Holding in themselves a pleasure
      Tempting us to sin.
